Over the Road with Real Trucking’s Management: In It For the Long Haul
Monday, June 24, 2024

At Real Trucking, we understand that a successful company is built on strong relationships and mutual respect. That's why we go beyond logistics, the Real team actively seeks to understand the experiences of our long-haul truck drivers, who are the backbone of our business. To achieve this, a few members of our leadership team have joined on ride-along with our veteran truckers.

Over the Road with Real’s President, Stan Khanyukov

Spending days, weeks, or even months on the road is quite the experience. At Real Trucking, we understand that it is crucial to understand what our truckers face while at work, especially when it comes to long-haul trucking. While our office personnel understand the logistics of the industry, we believe it is just as important to understand the experiences of the truckers who make it all happen. Stan Khanyukov, the company’s President, decided to step out of the office and hit the road with one of our veteran drivers, Jose, who Stan hired himself back in 2013.

Stan is no stranger to life on the road and the world of trucks, he used to be a long-haul truck driver, which is how he dove into the world of transportation and logistics. This experience, though different from his daily routine, brought back some nostalgia, as he puts it “I had the pleasure of spending two days on the road with one of our long-time truckers, Jose, it was quite a memory lane. Suddenly, my personal experience as a truck driver became not such a distant memory.” This trip was not just about these past experiences, it was to “see what our road warriors see and handle on the road away from home,” as he explained.

Following Stan’s insightful experience, Yura Matusevich, Vice President of Operations joined another one of our veteran truckers, Ievgen, to dive into the world of trucking.

At Real Trucking we believe in understanding every mile of a trucker's journey, which is why we had another one of our team members, a part of higher management, trade in his typical work hours at the office for a couple of days over the road with a trucker.

We see value in immersive experiences like this, by sharing the road with our truckers, Both Stan and Yura were able to understand the current challenges truckers face every day on the road. From the pressures of having to deliver on time, to uncontrollable weather conditions, to driving long hours, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be a truck driver. There are, however, benefits to being a long-haul truck driver, such as the freedom, schedule flexibility, and benefits offered by Real Trucking.

As Stan looks back on this trip with Jose, he is simply impressed stating “It is astonishing how easy it is to get accustomed to and start taking for granted the reliability, resilience, and professionalism, put in day in and day out by truck drivers who move the world around.” Jose, is a stellar example of these qualities, and we are proud to have him on our team for over ten years. Stan describes him as a “responsible, safety-conscious, a hard worker, but also a great guy and conversationalist.”

The purpose of management from the office going on these trips is to build stronger connections and support our truckers by understanding what they go through on the road. With this shared experience and compassion for truckers, Stan believes this approach allows Real Trucking to “get on the same page and stay there!”

The trucking industry keeps the world moving, but it also is filled with unique challenges. From long hours waiting to get loaded to unpredictable weather, trucks face constant challenges yet they remain resilient. By having our office team members spend time on the road, they understand the daily realities truckers have to navigate.

“It was an incredible experience,” said Yura,“Ievgen’s skill and focus behind the wheel were very impressive. No matter what we dealt with on the road, Ievgen stayed calm and handled every setback efficiently, we still delivered the load on time.” Moments like this open up our perspective to the challenges truckers face every day and are still expected to deliver on time in addition to being compliant with their hours of service (HOS).

It is important to acknowledge the contribution our truckers make, as they are the backbone of the company. Every member of the Real team matters, from the executives to those behind the wheel. We strive to create an environment where open communication and mutual respect exist.

Yura continued to explain the value of this experience since his job is to implement the operations strategy and maximize productivity while achieving customer satisfaction. This has also helped him understand the realities of the road and will allow him to relay this message to the team he manages. It can help with better route planning, scheduling, and resource allocation. Overall, this should benefit the team both inside of the office and on the road and deliver even better service to our customers, after all this is where people get Real results!

Stan finishes off by showing gratitude, “I am grateful that Jose allowed me to join and learn from him. Keep it Real.”

Both Stan’s and Yura’s experiences on the road are a testament to Real Trucking’s commitment to creating an environment of open communication and mutual respect. From the challenges we face to the success we deliver, we look forward to continuing to bring our office team over the road to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the truckers on the road. Over-the-road trucking is worth it, it can be challenging but it is also extremely rewarding.

Real Trucking is committed to creating a workplace where every team member feels respected, and valued, with a team that delivers results.
